The National Korean Martial Arts Association (NKMAA), was established in 1973 by renowned Grandmaster of martial arts, Rudy W. Timmerman, who was born in The Netherlands (b. 1940) but has been a resident of Canada ever since he was 18 years old. During an annual event (Warrior Weekend, Aug. 8th, 9th & 10th) held in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in the summer of 2025, GM Timmerman laid out his plan to allow the NKMAA to continue the good works he started, even if he would no longer be at the helm (a celebratory “Last Hurrah” ~ a gathering of many prestigious martial arts instructors from all across the globe, as well as plenty of martial arts enthusiasts, all converged to send off GM Timmerman in exquisite style, as he would be stepping into semi‍–‍retirement in just a short week, when his 85th birthday would come to pass on Aug. 17th ). From those accomplished martial arts instructors in attendance, GM Timmerman hand selected a cadre of five individuals who were not only capable but also willing to continue with the tireless efforts involved with making a world class martial arts association run smoothly & efficiently, serving all those interested in a quality experience.

So the National Korean Martial Arts Association lives on, continuing to bring you everything you’ve come to expect from years of dedicated service while enriching the martial arts community at large.

The current “leadership council” consists of the following five Chief Masters (in no particular order):
  • CM John Orndorff
  • CM Steven Jensen
  • CM Christopher Demanaeus
  • CM Dickson Kunz
  • CM Thomas Gordon

  • Please check out each chiefmaster’s biography page (links available HERE), so you can learn which one might best serve your needs (they are all great at what they do but due to your proximity to their region or the martial arts style you’re interested in, will determine which one of them you will turn to for personalized attention).

training we can provide, and the meaningful certification we can issue to practitioners of Kuk‍-‍Sool, Hap·Ki·Do, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, and Kong Shin Bup. All of this is done in a politically free environment, and our Board Of Advisors include some of the most highly respected Grandmasters and Masters in each of the arts mentioned above. GM Timmerman personally looks after all Kuk‍-‍Sool Hap·Ki·Do, Kuk‍-‍Sool, and Hap·Ki·Do students, and his goal is to assist all NKMAA members in a professional and courteous manner.

NKMAA strives to uphold the highest standards in the industry, and we respectfully decline membership to those who are not interested in working hard to earn rank. Our focus is on quality, not quantity, enabling us to provide the very best of service to each and every member. While this means that our membership may not be as large as some other associations, we are proud of the fact that our members are among the very best in their chosen art.

For school owners, NKMAA does not interfere with the way you run your business. We simply provide you with good training and meaningful credentials. We cordially invite you to join our ranks, and we will do our level best to earn the trust you place in us. You are invited to peruse our site in order to learn more about us; however, feel free to contact us directly to answer any questions you might have. Thanks for visiting the NKMAA Home Page.
